CLIMATE
Climate change is there. There refers to “long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns” (United Branded Nation). People are experiencing it in diverse ways all around the world: tsunamis, fires, floods, and cyclones. This is the most dangerous threat facing humanity. If we don't act fast and smart, our grandchildren will have to face a chaotic world.
How do we experience it in Amefia?
Climate change is present in Amefia as you may already know. The north side is facing the coldest winter for 120 years. The inhabitants of this region should be careful if they go out after 8:00 pm. Indeed, some nights the temperatures can decrease to -19 degree. Being exposed to this temperature could be a disaster for the human body, especially, if you are not wearing appropriate clothes.
The south side was stifling this summer, many fires destroyed hectares of opium crops and woods. This heat wave forced people to go to the north side to find a more breathable air.
Last fall, floods happened all over the country. Schools had to stay closed for three days, and many citizens didn’t have electricity for hours, even days.
What can we do to try to contain it?
We must reduce our consumption of energy, water, clothes, and even technology. These latter two are extremely harmful for our planet: they require a lot of energy and water to be created. Most of their components can’t be recycled.
Reusing is a lifestyle that most of the Amefia people already know. Indeed, you can give your old belongings (clothes, books, objects) to your City Hall, which will give them to people in need or will sell them to create culture events with benefits. Many online platforms exist to sell your old belongings yourself or to buy them.
As for recycling, Amefia doesn't set a good example of it. We only recycle 5% of our waste. This is not enough in comparison to Evenia. Amefians must recycle paper, plastic, metal, and glass.
To contain climate change Amefia and all the countries of the United Branded Nations must collaborate and find solutions together. However, as citizens, each of us can do something by changing his/her habits. That’s why our new watchword must be “Reducing, Reusing and Recycling.”
