It’s Christmas time! Who doesn’t love a cosy night by the fire with the Christmas tree all lit and decorated beautifully? But it’s a hard choice to make: a real or a fake tree?
Over the years the climate change has really affected the growth of Christmas trees in Amefia. Our appreciation towards our planet has grown and we want to make green choices wherever possible. But when it comes to Christmas many Amefians still want a real tree and enjoy the smell of pinewood during the holiday season.
Real or fake?
When it comes to Christmas trees, there's a lot of misinformation out there. People are under the impression that real trees are better for the environment than fake ones but what is the truth?
The truth is that both real and fake Christmas trees have their pros and cons, so how do you choose between them?
Fake Christmas trees are usually made from plastic that is not made sustainably increasing your carbon footprint. They tend to only last a few years only before you have to get rid of them and buy a new one. They are usually also more expensive than a real tree as the plastic used to make them is quite pricy.
Now, for the real tree you have two options:
You buy a new one every year
You buy once with the roots still attached and plant is in the garden and use it every year.
If you buy one every year the tree will need to be grown, cut down and transported to you. This transportation causes many fossil fuels to be released into the air increasing your carbon footprint. However, if you buy one, plant it and use it every year you are lowering your carbon footprint and have a beautiful tree in your garden all year round. In addition, you also get the full Christmas experience as your house will smell like pinewood 24/7.
Conclusion:
Buying a real tree once and planting it in the garden to use every year is the most sustainable option.
